This heat map compares the average location of the lungs compared with a large dataset.
The recent irruption of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has dramatically changedthe way of life of millions of people around the world, putting public health at risk, andoverburdening health systems, also with unpredictable economic consequences yet to come.The number of cases worldwide is over 70 million and the number of direct deaths over 1.6million as of December 10th, 2020. Vaccines are anxiously expected, but in the meanwhile earlydetection of Covid-19 cases is crucial to reduce transmission rates and adopting appropriatemeasures [1].
The current standard methods for COVID-19 diagnosis are reverse transcription polymerasechain reaction (PCR) and antigen tests. However, many previous studies have shown thatthere are many characteristic patterns of COVID-19 using either CT or X-ray chestimaging. This fact has motivated the development of different artificial intelligence algorithmsfor automated COVID-19 diagnosis.
Although CT imaging may be more accurate for COVID-19 later diagnosis the justification on primary care trial is unclear. Since COVID-19 is highly contagious, the use of complex machines such as CT scanners, is a serious hazard for healthcare staff and otherpatients who require imaging [10]. On the other hand, chest X-ray is a recommended tool forinitial assessment of patients with marked respiratory symptoms caused by suspected covid-19infection.
